When The Code Goes Wrong

By: JC Ruiz

This man’s name is Justin Johnson and he’s a computer science teacher here at Howard. Mr. Johnson was born to two parents Frieda and Jeffrey. As a child, he was moved uprooted from place to place as his parents were both in the military, but he spent the majority of his childhood in Philadelphia. Mr. J was always the new kid; he went to seven different schools before attending college. During the third grade, Mr. J was hospitalized for several months because of a collapsed lung. His condition had deteriorated as time went on and when it took a turn for the worse, his doctors decided to try one last ditch surgery. However, before his surgery, the doctors decided to take one last x-ray. What they originally thought was wrong was erroneous, and his surgery was cancelled. Mr. J then got drastically better overnight, learning the value of hope and miracles from his experience. Going into college, Mr. J had aspirations for the pre-vet course, but later found that job to be underwhelming. He grew bored of constantly working with adults, so he decided to chase his true passion a career in teaching. Although he wanted to pursue his career in teaching, he still needed money to pay for his education, so while he was attempting to obtain a degree in teaching, he worked at Johns Hopkins and worked on several types of research, his most notable work being his creation of an Ebola Suit, a suit that prevents the user from contracting the deadly virus. In addition to being knowledgeable in teaching and biology, Mr. J is also adept in fields like computer science and psychology. Today, Mr. J is a computer science teacher here at Howard High School, is happily married with a wife and two kids, and enjoys his job with a childlike wonder. Last year he wrote a book and he plans to write a new one sometime soon.

Jeremy's Connection

My name is Jeremy Ruiz, and Mr. J was my tenth grade AP computer science teacher. He was a joy to have as a teacher, there was never a sad day when he was at the podium in A202. This experience has allowed me to get to know him better as an individual as well as an educator. Furthermore this interaction has also influenced my path for the future, and I look forward to having Mr. J as a reference. I’ll always know where to find advice in my career choices.
